Ricardo Tovar: We were very excited about the possibility of hosting the Global Anabaptist Missions Consultation and the MWC General Council meetings in Colombia. Then people from an AVLANCA flight were kidnapped. A church in Cali was taken over. We realized then that we were not in a position to be able to assure the safety of a large group such as the MWC General Council. After we announced our decision not to host the meetings we were at peace. If just one brother or sister had been kidnapped, it would have been very hard on us. We were pleased to learn that an MWC delegation would visit us.
Islandes Losada: It is noteworthy how much blessing can come from an opportune visit such as this. Even though we may not have met before, we are part of a worldwide family. Ambrocio's and Hugo's words encouraged our youth, and through them our whole church.
Diego Martinez: We in Colombia have often neglected unity among the different Anabaptist groups. What was not attained because of common convictions was achieved around the problems we are going through now. This visit has helped us to know each other a little better and to strengthen our ties.
Peter Stucky: Bishop Shamapani was very moved by our work with the displaced. In Zambia there are many displaced people. The Bishop said that churches there are not working with them. So he left inspired to start this kind of service on top of the other projects the Zambian churches are already doing. He asked for advice about how to do it.
Ricardo Tovar: The image that the media convey about Colombia is drugs and violence, never the good things. One of the good things is the church. After this visit, Colombia will be taken into account in other continents. Ambrocio is going to talk about Colombia in the Philippines; Shamapani is going to talk about Colombia in Zambia; Hugo is going to talk in Uruguay, and Juan is going to talk in Switzerland. It is very important that everywhere our people may know that Colombia exists and that they know about our predicament.
