A Call to Prayer
Are any among you suffering? They should pray.
Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise.--James 5:13
Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.--Ephesians 6:18.
During the GAMCo and MWC General Council meetings in Guatemala, a significant portion of time was dedicated to prayer. Worship services, Bible studies, sermons, life stories, reports, business session, caucus meetings, and other activities and times of sharing led to expressions of thanksgiving and requests for intercessory prayer. In that spirit, Courier/Correo invited the participants to submit suggestions for prayer which could be published here. Our hope is that we can pray knowledgeably for each other. Our intention is to make such prayer requests a regular feature in Courier/Correo. We invite readers to send prayer suggestions for future issues.
Evangelization and Missions
- Pray for the work of the Indigenous Churches in the Paraguayan Chaco to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ in their area. (Walter Ortiz, Paraguay)
- Pray for the evangelistic efforts among the Muslims, and for the Yao-Muslim Bible Translation Project. (E.B. Disi, Malawi)
Social Service
- Pray for the church in downtown Bogotá, that God will give us a strategy to continue our work with women who have drug problems and are involved in prostitution. (Ricardo Tovar, Colombia)
- Pray for the relief programs for refugees from Rwanda, Burundi, and Congo. (Kanisa La Mennonite, Tanzania)
- Pray for help to overcome famine in our country. (Kanisa La Mennonite, Tanzania) Pray also for Kenya, where for two years there has been no rain. The severe drought has brought terrible famine. (Philip E. Okeyo, Kenya)
Health and Healing
- Pray for Pastor Alcoser's mother, that the Lord may provide finances so that she may undergo heart surgery. (Asuncion Alcoser, Belize)
- Pray for HIV/AIDS patients in Kenya. (Philip E. Okeyo, Kenya)
Peace and Justice
- Please pray for an end to ethnic conflicts in the Balkans. May the people, the churches, and the governments find ways for these people to live together in peace. (Stefan van Delden, Germany)
- Pray for peace and order in The Philippines, in particular about the war going on between government forces and fundamentalist Muslims. (Ambrocio L. Porcincula, The Philippines)
- Pray for the political elite in Indonesia, who are always fighting among themselves. Offer special prayers for Ambon and North Halmahera, where Muslims and Christians are killing each other. And pray that churches in Indonesia may show Christ's love to people of other faiths. (Handoko Mulyanto, Indonesia)
- Pray that the Canadian government and Talisman Gas Company, along with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), will find a solution in relation to the violence in Sudan. The EFC is pressuring to have Talisman leave Sudan because oil-production revenues are funding those in power, who are also killing many, especially Christians, in order to own land and oil rights. (David Wiebe, Canada)
