MWC Commissions

MWC General Council Commissions are a part of the Mennonite World Conference General Council structure.  The vision, mission, and priorities that define the general structure of Mennonite World Conference are described in the Constitution.

  • Peace Commission

    The Peace Commission enables MWC member churches to talk about the peace issues facing their countries and continents.

    Statement of Purpose:

    Provide a conversation forum in which MWC member churches can share the peace questions and issues they face in their contextsStrengthen the peace identity of MWC member churches through mutual reinforcement and discussion, andEnable MWC member churches to work together cooperatively on selected peace issues.

  • Faith & Life Commission

    Commission Members: Rainer Burkart, Hanspeter Jecker, Alix Lozano Forero, Larry Miller (Secretary), Albert Ndlovu, Alfred Neufeld Friesen (Chair), Rebecca Osiro, Valerie Rempel, Janti Widjaja, Thomas Yoder Neufeld

    Faith and Life Comission promotes theological conversation among church leaders globally about how Mennonites and Brethren in Christ in all parts of the world express their faith.

    Statement of Purpose:

    Determine how MWC-member churches understand and describe Anabaptist-Mennonite faith and practice

    Enable MWC-member churches to receive and give council on Anabaptist-Mennonite identity and action in the world today, as well as on matters of Christian faith and practice in general.

    Encourage MWC-member churches to develop relationships of mutual accountability — internationally and cross-culturally — in the convictions we hold and the lives we live.


  • Deacons Commission

    Commission Members: Dave Dyck, Barbara Hege-Galle, Shemlal Hembrom, Yukari Kaga, Delbert Kuhosakubi, Bert C. Lobe (Secretary), Samuel Martínez Leal, Cynthia Peacock (Chair), Enock Shamapani, Gladys Siemens, and Henk Stenvers.

    The Deacons Commission is a part of the Mennonite World Conference General Council structure.  The vision, mission, and priorities that define the general structure of Mennonite World Conference are described in the Constitution.

    The General Mission of the Deacons Commission is to:

    • prepare materials and address issues related to the well-being of MWC member and associate member churches;
    • give guidance and provide resources to MWC or member churches in the area of diakonia within member churches;
    • facilitate MWC-related networks or fellowships on matters of common interest and focus.
