First Mennonite Church of Hope in Marmong Point, New South Wales, Australia requests prayer and help in their search for a new pastor. In a recent letter, Anne McQueen, treasurer of the congregation, reported that they are looking for new leadership since their long time pastor Foppe Brouwer, age 82, and his wife, Aaltje, age 73, are both in failing health.
Brouwers were ordained in the Netherlands in the late 1970s and sent to Australia by the European Mennonite Evangelism Committee to plant a church. The Australian Conference of Evangelical Mennonites, First Mennonite Church of Hope was established in 1980. It is a member church of Mennonite World Conference.
“We are a small congregation with a passion for Christ,” wrote McQueen. “We see the potential that our Lord Jesus Christ can do within the community and the area around our church. We believe that God wants us to continue, but we need a new pastor for leadership, teaching and outreach ministry for the church to grow and continue.”
